Goals: 0:1 Julian Piromalli (56.); 0:2 Rydeen Botha (71.); 0:3 Luke O'Neill Canning City’s remarkable eighteen game run without defeat came to an abrupt end when out-shot 3-0 by Ashfield at Willetton Sports Club. An entertaining, end to end contest opened with Simon Versaico’s fierce shot cannoning off the crossbar after five minutes. Ashfield’s first chance followed as Rydeen Botha intercepted an attempted clearance and drilled a low shot which young goalkeeper Devon Spence held. For the remainder of the half Canning dominated play but were guilty of failing to make the most of their chances. Mark Purcell’s last gasp challenge halted a driving run by Paul Van Dongen, a Versaico cross narrowly evaded Dave Mickler at the far post and just before the interval Kyle Mitsopoulos’ shot was cleared off the line by Andy O’Neill. Ashfield came out for the second half a much stronger proposition and eleven minutes after the restart Botha’s angled shot was touched onto the bar by Spence and Julian Piromalli acrobatically pushed the rebound in from a couple of metres. The margin was doubled on 71 minutes when Piromalli fed Botha who tucked his shot past the ‘keeper. Luke O’Neill put the icing on the cake with a powerful shot that found the gap between Spence and his near post. Canning’s misery was compounded by the late dismissal of Daniel Trevisol. |
Goals: 0:1 Christian Paschewitz; 1:1 Ray Rose; 1:2 Christian Paschewitz; 1:3 Christian Paschewitz; 2:3 Jon Greenwood Christian Paschkewitz had the most remarkable week of his life this week as his wife gave birth to his first child, a daughter, and to celebrate, he scored a hat trick to sink Dianella & to keep Mandurah on top of the league, Mandurah running out 3-2 winners. A depleted Mandurah City squad secured another 3 points towards the title today as they dispatched a similarly depleted Dianella squad 3-2 at Dianella. Mandurah started much the sharper of the two teams and were ahead early as Christian Paschkewitz rose to head a Scott Halpin freekick past the Dianella keeper. Dianella were stung by the early Mandurah pressure and conjured up an equaliser as they found space on their left flank to place the ball wide of Mandurah's keeper, Mike Green. Mandurah were back in front soon afterwards, however, as Christian Paschkewitz scored a second. Once again the Mandurah striker was first to the ball finding himself in space to head home the second from another Mandurah freekick. Just before the break Mandurah went further ahead as Shane Crampton headed on a corner at the near post and Paschkewitz met the ball for his third goal of the day. Half time, Mandurah 3 v Dianella 1. Dianella came out of the break like a team transformed which was essential as their season was on the line. Jon Greenwood put the Serbian club back into the game within the first ten minutes as he capitalised on some slack marking from Mandurah to create time and to place a superb lob over the head of Mike Green in the Mandurah goals. Dianella did hit the target twice more before the end of the game, however, both strikes were adjudged offside. Mandurah City could have scored another but poor finishing and tired legs were let them down. Match report courtesy of Mandurah City |
Goals: 1:0 Ricky Simpson (Penalty); 1:1 Carl Marwood (31.); 1:2 Carl Marwood (37.); 2:2 Dimce Taneski (39.); 3:2 Tim Zacharia (54.) Rockingham City now require a minor miracle to avoid finishing in last place in the Football West State First Division after losing to rivals Queens Park 3-2 at Coker Park. Despite noticeably improving in recent weeks, Rockingham have just one point from thirteen league matches this year, which sees them anchored to the bottom of the table, which means possible relegation to the Amateur Premier League for next season. Queens Park took an early lead when they were awarded a penalty after Grant Learmont’s free-kick was handled by Richard Lacey inside the box. Ricky Simpson took the spot-kick and sent the ‘keeper the wrong way. After Michael Vaz narrowly missed for City in the 17th minute, defender Carl Marwood tied the scores in the 31st minute when firm header from in amongst a pack of players following a corner left Queens Park ‘keeper Brendan Symonds with no chance. Marwood once again caught Queens Park out following a corner in the 37th minute when he out-jumped everybody strongly headed past the defender at the far post to give Rockingham a well deserved lead. With the visitors still clearly delighted following that goal, Queens Park caught them out just two minutes later as Jimmy Taneski produced a stunning long range shot that left Rockingham ‘keeper Craig Olejnik with no chance, tying the score at 2-2 six minutes out from half-time. Vaz was just millimetres away from putting Rockingham in front once again on the verge of half-time, but his well taken free-kick from 30 yards could only test the woodwork. The home side took the lead eight minutes into the second half through Tim Zacharia, who had the ball played to him in space and coolly finished from 15 yards. The Cannington-based outfit should have sealed their victory in the 66th minute when Simpson was played clean through, but while successfully knocking past the ‘keeper his cute shot knocked into the upright, wasting a brilliant opportunity. After controlling the match for nearly all of the second period, Queens Park had another great chance to ensure their win in the 85th minute when the ball was played to a wide open Taneski on the edge of the box, but when he seemed certain to score he shot horribly wide. Rockingham were unlucky not to pinch a point through Marwood in the 95th minute, who once again proved a major nuisance from corners. His headed from close range following a corner was well saved by Symonds, who knocked it onto the upright and then after a goal-mouth scramble saw the ball cleared, securing a 3-2 victory for Queens Park. Last placed Rockingham are now seven points behind eleventh placed Gosnells, while Queens Park now appear safe from relegation, now sitting thirteen points clear of the bottom with nine games left to play. Goals: 1:0 Steve Suttie (7.); 2:0 Kris Braeckmans; 3:0 Greg Hayes; 4:0 Patrick Quinn; 5:0 Steve Suttie (50.); 6:0 Gary Mayers; 6:1 Anthony Toutounizs; 7:1 Gary Mayers South West Phoenix registered the biggest ever winning margin by belting Balcatta 7-1 at the Soccerdrome in Bunbury. The ball had been in motion only 7 minutes when Andy Cowley picked out Steve Suttie who was afforded time to take a touch before slotting in from 9-metres. Balcatta were determined to equalise and for the next twenty minutes play ebbed and flowed without too many chances either way. However, three goals in a devastating fifteen minute ended the game as a contest. Suttie cut the ball back for Kris Braeckmans to clinically finish from near the penalty spot. Greg Hayes blasted in from close-range after his near post header came back to him off an opponent. Then Patrick Quinn’s shot came off the post for Gary Mayers to volley in from 5-metres and make it four-nil at the break. Any vague thoughts of a Balcatta comeback disappeared within five minutes of the restart when Braeckmans and Mayers and partnered up to tee-up Suttie who made no mistake. Goal number six came from Mayers who converted at close-range after a Suttie shot was parried by the goalkeeper. Balcatta got on the board through Anthony Toutounizs after Ryan Montgomery fumbled a free-kick. Mayers completed his hat-trick minutes by prodding in a through ball from Quinn. |

Goals: 1:0 Scott McIlroy (6.); 1:1 Rory Grant (7.); 1:2 Wes Ryder (37.); 2:2 Seita Hamamoto (40.); 3:2 Joe Woodin (68.); 4:2 Joe Woodin (71.); 4:3 Sal Marrapodi (86.) Morley Windmills consolidated fourth position on the table with a 4-3 win over Bayswater City on a sunny afternoon at Wotton Reserve. The home team took the lead just 6 minutes after kick off through a thunderbolt from well outside the 18-yard box by Scott McIlroy that had the goalkeeper grasping at air. However, parity was restored a minute later by Rory Grant who finished superbly after being played through on goal. In the 37th minute Wes Ryder put Bayswater in front with a powerful strike that was ruled to have crossed the line by the referees assistant. But that lead was short lived as three minutes later Seita Hamamoto headed past Cody Bradshaw. Midway through the second half Morley regained the upper hand as Scott McIlroy whipped a corner to the far post where Andrew Bowyer hooked it back across goal for Joe Woodin to head in. Bowyer then controversially issued his second yellow card for some over-enthusiastic celebrations in front of the Bayswater supporters. The game was seemingly made safe three minutes later by Woodin who again found a way past the ‘keeper. Bayswater weren’t about to give up the chase and with only minutes remaining Sal Marrapodi converted in a frantic goalmouth scramble to set up a tense finish. |
